The Public Schools of Brookline seeks a Grades 6-8 French Teacher. We are looking for a
dynamic and passionate educator dedicated to developing student proficiency with the French language and deepening their understanding of Francophone cultures. This position offers an exciting opportunity to design and implement engaging and interactive French lessons, create and maintain a supportive and inclusive learning environment, contribute to the academic and personal growth of our students, and develop a lifelong appreciation for language learning.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Creating a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes active
participation and collaboration among students. - Implementing a comprehensive French curriculum that aligns with state standards and
proficiency guidelines, focusing on the development of listening, speaking, reading, and
writing skills through the use of multi-modal instruction in the three modes of
communication. - Differentiating instruction to meet the diverse learning needs, interests, and abilities of
students, providing scaffolding and support as needed to promote language acquisition
and proficiency development. - Utilizing a variety of instructional strategies, technology tools, and resources to enhance
student engagement and learning outcomes. - Implementing effective assessment strategies to monitor student progress and adjust
instruction accordingly. - Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
through clear communication and collaboration. - Actively participating in professional development opportunities, department meetings,
and school-wide initiatives to continuously improve teaching practices and contribute to a
culture of collaboration and continuous learning.
Required Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of French language, grammar, vocabulary, culture, and literature
- Advanced oral proficiency in French
- Knowledge of middle level learning and the developmental needs of adolescents.
- Strong foundation in student-centered pedagogy
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective world language pedagogy, with an emphasis on oral proficiency
- Ability to differentiate instruction and assess learning using a variety of methods
- Strong classroom management skills
- Commitment to creating and maintaining an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment
- Strong communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and establish positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families
- Reflective practitioner with a growth mindset and a willingness to adapt to the evolving
needs of students and the school community - Massachusetts DESE teacher certification in World Language: French (5-12)
