Convention Registration

There are several rates which vary according to the excursions and activities chosen. Early Bird Basic Registration (available until May 15) is $275 and includes full participation in sessions and exhibits plus the opening reception, convention mallette, and dictée. A Full Registration Package of $400 also includes basic registration, the Welcome Luncheon, Awards Banquet, one workshop and one walking tour.  Speaker Registration is $250.  The rate for Student, Emeritus, Honorary, or Life Members is $130.

We will livestream a selection of sessions on Tuesday, July 12 and Wednesday, July 14 for a registration rate of $70 per day or $130 for both days.   Check out our Sched app for the full program.

SUNDAY, JULY 10

Pre-convention excursion (all day) – All of these activities are now closed.

  • Participants will take a bus tour of the city with anecdotes about each neighborhood presented in French by a local guide.  The tour will include a stop at the famous Morning Call Café for coffee and beignets.   Then participants will be treated to a meal of local dishes prepared for them by a trained chef at the New Orleans School of Cooking.  The preparation of each dish will be explained with recipes provided.  The chef will also explain the origins and local traditions surrounding each dish.   The cooking demonstration will be in English.   In the afternoon, participants will receive a guided tour in French of New Orleans’ oldest cemetery.   Cost: $110 (pre-registration required; spouses and guests welcome)
  • A limited number of additional spaces will be available for the Cooking Demonstration only (in English).   Cost for the Cooking Demonstration only: $60 (pre-registration required)
  • A limited number of additional spaces will be available for the Cemetery Tour only (in French).   Cost for the Cemetery Tour only: $40 (pre-registration required)

Monday, July 11

  • Opening Session (9:30-11:30 a.m.)
  • Welcome Luncheon (11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.)
    Join us for the welcome luncheon where members can meet others from their region.   Buffet lunch.  Menu coming soon. Cost: $55 (pre-registration required; spouses and guests welcome)
  • Afternoon workshops (1-4 p.m.)

  • Walking Tour of French Quarter  (4-6 p.m.) The walking tours are now all full.
  • Note: The La Louisiane Créole French Quarter tours with Tours by Marguerite will begin at the Herman-Grima House at 820 St. Louis St. (a 6-minute walk from the Hotel Monteleone).  Please arrive 10 min. before the tour start time on your ticket.

    A tour of the Vieux Carré in French full of anecdotes from Creole Louisiana.   The tour includes a visit to the courtyard and slave quarters of the Hermann-Grima House, a 19th-century French Quarter home and residence of two wealthy Creole families.  Cost: $30 (pre-registration required; spouses and guests may be added on site, pending space available)

  • Exhibit Opening Wine & Cheese Reception (4-7 p.m.)
    Attendees can get a first look at what our exhibitors have to offer.

Tuesday, July 12

  • Sessions – 8:30 a.m.-4:15 p.m.
  • Exhibits – 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Dictée  (4:15 p.m.)

Wednesday, July 13

  • Exhibits – 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
  • AATF Delegate Assembly (1:30-3:30 p.m.)
    The annual meeting of delegates representing the seventy AATF chapters.  Reports will be given by the Executive Director, Editors of the AATF publications, Regional Representatives, and Commissions.   Presided by AATF President Eileen Walvoord and the Executive Director.  Open to official AATF Chapter Delegates and interested members.
  • Walking Tour of French Quarter (in French) (4-6 p.m.) The walking tours are now all full.

  • AATF Awards Banquet  (7:30-9:30 p.m.)
    Join us for the AATF Awards Banquet where we will recognize award recipients for 2022, as well as those who are present from the virtual years (2020-2021).  Cost: $85 (pre-registration required; spouses and guests welcome)

Thursday, July 14

  • Sessions – 8:30-10:45 a.m.
  • The post convention activities are now closed.
  • Afternoon Post-convention Excursion – Laura Plantation  Cost: $65 (pre-registration required; spouses and guests welcome)
    Visit the Laura Plantation which emphasizes Louisiana’s Francophone Creole heritage and the contributions of people of African descent to Louisiana’s history.

Thursday, July 14 and Friday, July 15

  • Overnight Post-convention Excursion
    The activities will include a Swamp Tour in French just outside the French-speaking town of Pont Breaux (Breaux Bridge).   A tour of the Bayou Tech Brewery in French will also include a Bastille Day Party.   Day 2 begins with breakfast at Maison Stéphanie.   A walkthrough of the Saint-Luc Immersion Facility at Arnaudville run by Amanda LaFleur, coordinator of Cajun Studies at Louisiana State University, and Mavis Frugé, Louisiana native and Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes acaémiques.  Arnaudville is a community in which  40% of the population still speak French daily.   Ms. LaFleur will present participants with the possibilities of the immersive experiences that south Louisiana, and Arnaudville in particular, can offer those learning French.   Lunch in Vermilionville will be followed by a tour of Vermilionville, a “living history museum.”  The museum is a replica of an old creole village (containing buildings from throughout south Louisiana).   The exhibits are interactive and are managed by docents that represent every group in Francophone Louisiana.   Many of the docents speak French.   Return to New Orleans by 6:30 p.m.Cost: $400 per person for single accommodation/$290 for double accommodation (queen).  Price includes transportation, lodging, meals, and entry fees for the Swamp Tour, Brewery, and Vermilionville.  (pre-registration required; spouses and guests may be added on site, pending space available)
